The Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians (2019) guides our planning and teaching and notes two goals.
The Australian Education System promotes equity and excellence.
All young Australians become:
a. Confident and creative individuals
b. Successful lifelong learners
c. Active and informed members of the community.
These goals are then further refined by Brisbane Catholic Education to be: As a Catholic community, we educate for all to live the gospel of Jesus Christ as successful, creative and confident, active and informed learners empowered to shape and enrich our world.”
The St William’s Vision for Learning is intrinsically linked to these goals and is embedded in the school’s Mission, Motto, Charism, Values for Learning and Pedagogical Practices.
The school motto is 'In God's Hand', and this is drawn from the previous motto of 'In all things may God be glorified' which was the motto for all Good Samaritan schools. 'In God's Hand' signifies the love and care that is given for all in our school community. God's gentle hand is used to help, encourage, direct, guide, calm and hold everyone.
The logo of the interlocking hands that is featured on our branding and signage is a symbol for this hand. The green is the large expansive fields the school is built upon, and they are also a ground of opportunity and development. The sun on the horizon signifies the future that is beyond the horizon and this is a reminder that our purpose is to educate students so that they can transform their community and build a better world. This is the learning journey that we are all on…in God's Hand.
